Coping Methods Used by Students of a Health School for Dysmenorrhea Management

In the study, it was aimed to determine coping methods used by health school students for dysmenorrhea management. The population of cross-sectional and descriptive study consisted midwifery (N=280) studying at a public university. Volunteer (n=240) participants who met sampling criteria were recruited.Data collected with Descriptive Information Form, VAScale, Menstrual Symptom Severity Scale (MSSS). mean age 19.92±1.51 menstrual period 5.68±1.48 days. prevalence 42.1%, pain severity in VAS 5.04±3.01, MSSS score 21.16±11.25. It stated that 90.8% did not receive any medical treatment dysmenorrhea, 76.2% them non-pharmacological different most 65.4% hot application, 60.4% lying down, 49.5% pressure tying belt on abdomen 47.9%. found be taking bath. 91.9% beginning menstruation, (95.2%), frequency (69%) duration (76.5%) decreased after application method. determined applying heat significantly affect (χ2=0.137,p=1.000), (χ2=2.020,p=0.199) (χ2=0.854, p=0.653) pain. Bath type had significant effect post-application (χ2=12.072,p=0.002) those preferred cope bathing Preferring such as massage, feeding, pressing have severity, duration, (p>0.05). There difference between times method their (χ2=20.495,p=0.000). To heat, abdomen, bathing, while using herbal tea, exercise, walking, nutrition listening music, seems beneficial take standing bath menstruation. More research is needed effectiveness.
